Cathy Nykiel
Event
Coordinator
Starting March 5, 2006,
MainStreet Oceanside has a new Event Coordinator, Cathy
Nykiel. She was born and raised in Battle Creek,
Michigan, leaving Michigan in 1981 to join the United
States Navy. Serving as a Hospital Corpsman and
working her way up to Chief Petty Officer, Cathy saw a lot
of the world. She served in Kuwait and was part of
two Humanitarian missions to Kenya and Guatemala.
Retirement came in 2004.
While
stationed in Barstow in 1988, Cathy met Peter, a United
States Marine, and they were married. The are the
proud parents of 3 sons, 1 daughter, and now 2
grandchildren. Their daughter, son-in-law, and
grandchildren live in Texas. One son is studying at
the University of Arkansas and the other two boys are at
Mira Costa Community College. All of the children
graduated from Oceanside High School.
When
Cathy heard about the opening at MainStreet, she was
excited because she was interested in becoming more
involved in the city of Oceanside and is very enthusiastic
about the revitalization of Downtown. She has been
involved in event planning all her life. In the
military she was responsible for a large number of military
balls, numerous celebrations, and planning events. As
a Mom, she was very involved with her children in sports,
choral and instrumental music, and in producing many
fund-raising events for the groups.
For
the past year Cathy has been employed by McGregor Plant
Sales in Carlsbad. The company is an international
plant broker. She was responsible for HR, office,
facilities, and website.
All of
us here at MainStreet Oceanside welcome Cathy and look
forward to working together at many old and new
events. Her excitement and enthusiasm are definitely
contagious.
